Still Life with Hockey

This still life was a gift to my brother. He asked for a painting for his new apartment, and I thought, what would give him the most enjoyment? A landscape is nice, but my brother (in true Quebecker fashion) is a big hockey fan, specifically the Bruins. I wondered to myself, why can’t hockey be art?

This painting is the result. It is one of the most carefully painted canvases I have ever created. It now hangs in my brother’s living room. He’s the only person I know who owns a still life showcasing hockey objects! Even more meaningful is that the objects are a mix of his own equipment, and some of my dad’s, who played on amateur teams back in the day. Click the image for a larger version.
